Megawattage Success Story: Rooftop Generator Replacement in Miami, FL

Megawattage recently completed an intricate generator replacement  project right here in Miami, Florida. 

The issue: One of our clients have a dedicated generator room, within which the product needed replacement. The generator needing replacement was a 137KW generator. For reference, these types of generators are upwards of thousands of pounds. 

And this generator room just happened to be on the roof, on the sixth floor.

The solution: We had to come up with a creative solution to make this happen. 

Our team of engineers came up with a plan. We located a large vent in the side wall of the generator room that would allow for removal and replacement of the generator from the outside. Carefully, we could remove the vent to create a sufficient opening. 

But how would we reach the opening? 

Our team created a custom mobile rail system made from steel beams and casters that would be able to hold the weight of a crane and the generator itself. The crane was a must, as it would allow enough maneuverability to remove the existing system. 

At the end of the project, the faulty 137KW generator was removed from the Miami building’s roof, and replaced with a new 150KW propane generator.
